We got a puppy in December. A mini aussie-doodle which we named Gus. Gus is extremely well tempered with eyes and a personality of an old sole. I work as registered nurse manager in a mental health long term care facility. Gus started to come to work with me and I quickly learned that he had a certain "touch" or charm with the residents. They all love and adore him and constantly request him to come in and visit. So, I decided I wanted to make Gus a certified therapy dog. I reached out to the local "dog whisperer" who comes highly recommended by everyone in the area. Our first night of training was last night. And, I had no idea how difficult this was going to be. Gus did absolutely fine, in all honesty it was me that was trying to figure out the instructions and me that struggled following the commands that I was supposed to use. I quickly realized that this was going to be much more difficult than I originally planned. They claim the first night is the most difficult and it gets much easier. We'll see. I just hope Maggie, the black lab who trains next to us has control of her nervous gas next time. We go back next Wednesday.
